1-What is the Turkish Placement Test (TSTS)?

It is an international exam that measures all of the basic language skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking, developed by the Language Application and Research Center, which carries out its activities under the T.R. ISTANBUL AREL UNIVERSITY in order to determine the language proficiency of individuals who learn Turkish as a foreign language or mother tongue.

T.R. ISTANBUL AREL UNIVERSITY TSTS Certificate has an international validity. The control and reliability of the certificate is carried out with the barcode on the certificate.

2-Who prepares the Turkish Placement Exam?

Turkish Placement Exam questions are elaborately prepared by a team of experts in their field. TSTS questions are inspected by experts in the Exam Center Unit, independent assessment and evaluation experts, and linguists to check the quality of their effectiveness, and questions that pass many control stages in terms of content, spelling, and assessment-evaluation before the exam are selected differently for each student from the exam pool. The texts in the Listening section are voiced close to the natural environment and asked to the candidates.

3-Who can take the Turkish Placement Exam?

Students who learn Turkish as a second language, students who need to certify their Turkish language proficiency for application and admission to universities in Turkey, prospective teachers who want to teach Turkish in various institutions abroad, translators who want to certify their Turkish language proficiency, in short, anyone who wants to measure their Turkish language proficiency can take the Turkish Placement Exam.

4-Why should I take the Turkish Placement Exam?

The Turkish Placement Test is a test that measures and documents your Turkish language skills. If you are successful in the “Turkish Placement Exam”, you can be exempted from the language preparation class at universities in Turkey. You can prove your knowledge of Turkish without taking the language exams and use it as a document for your academic career goals.

5-How can I apply for the Turkish Placement Exam?

6-Where is the Turkish Placement Exam held?

The Turkish Placement Exam is held in the cities you choose during the exam application. The full addresses of the test centers will be notified to you by e-mail and published on the website.

7-How to become a member of the Turkish Placement Exam system?

After the membership process is completed, the candidates log in to the main page of the system with the username and password they received. They select the Turkish Proficiency Exam from the entrance screen and enter the exam with the Exam Password given by the exam supervisor to the candidates. 8-What are the sections of the Turkish Placement Exam?

The Turkish Placement Exam consists of “Reading, Listening, Writing and Speaking (Mutual Speaking)” sections.

9-How is the Turkish Placement Exam held?

The Turkish Placement Test (TSTS) takes place in two sessions: 1. First session includes speaking part; while in the second session candidates answer reading, listening and writing questions.

10-How is the Speaking Exam conducted?

At the time previously sent by e-mail, the candidate enters the exam hall and the exam starts. The candidate enters the exam by clicking on the link with his/her name from the link sent to his/her e-mail account.

 

In the speaking exam, candidates are asked three questions. The first of these questions is aimed at getting to know the candidate and is asked to measure the real speaking ability by eliminating the candidate’s stress and anxiety. As the second question, a subject is given to the candidate to measure his/her individual speech and s/he is expected to express his/her opinion on this subject.

 

In the third question, a question is asked to measure the ability to talk to each other. According to the answer given by the candidate, another question is asked and the relationship between the two questions is measured. The consistency of the candidate’s answers to the question in the speaking exam, his/her reactions to the questions, and the gestures and facial expressions s/he used during the speech are crucial in scoring. The Speaking Exam constitutes a significant part of the exam. The speaking test takes about 10 minutes for each candidate.

11-How is the Reading Exam conducted?

There are 50 grammar-reading questions in the exam. Candidates are expected to answer random questions correctly. Grammar questions are evenly distributed across levels.

12-How is the Listening Exam conducted?

In the continuation of the question screen, 10 listening exams are randomly asked to the candidates. The questions were distributed equally at all levels. Sounds are composed of natural voices. Candidates can listen to as many audio files as they want.

13-How is the Writing Exam conducted?

As the final question of the exam, candidates are required to complete the writing exam. Candidates are asked to use at least 250 words in the writing exam. In addition, punctuation, compliance with spelling rules and subject integrity constitute the scoring  criteria of the writing exam.

14-Do I have the opportunity to change my previous answer in the exams?

During the exam, candidates can change their previous answers.

15-When are the results of the Turkish Placement Test announced?

The exam results are e-mailed to the candidate from the end of the exam up to 5 working days or published on the ArelDILMER website.

16-When will we receive the certificate?

Certificates are sent to you via e-mail as PDF within 3 working days from the announcement of the results. Candidates who request certificates in printed form are sent their certificates provided that they pay the shipping fees themselves. In such shipments, certificates are delivered to their addresses within 30 working days depending on the cargo company.

17-What is the validity period of the certificates?

Certificates are valid for 2 (two) years from the date of delivery.

18-What should candidates who lose their Turkish Proficiency Certificate do?

If the candidates whose Turkish Proficiency Certificate is still valid are lost, a PDF version is sent to them free of charge. Candidates who request certificates in printed form are sent their certificates provided that they pay the shipping fees themselves. In such shipments, certificates are delivered to their addresses within thirty (30) working days depending on the cargo company.

20-What is the score I need to get in order to qualify for the certificate?

The point equivalents are given below. You must be at least B1 level for a certificate to be issued on your behalf. No certificate is issued to candidates who receive less than B1 level:
